Over the years, it has been said that sports are a mirror-image of our culture. That has never been truer than today. Let’s see if I can give you an example of what I am proposing.

My assertion is that politically our country is a trainwreck. We have a president who has no idea how to be a president and demonstrates that every day. He is closer to a juvenile delinquent from the streets. Consequently, the old axiom, “the fish stinks at the head” holds true.

In the world of sports we have an assistant basketball coach at the University of Arizona who has been suspended (short for fired) due to an FBI investigation. At the University of Louisville the Head Basketball Coach and the Athletic Director have been released (fired) from their duties due to a federal investigation. This is a basketball coach who has won NCAA Championships and on the all-time winners list. It is his program under question, yet he says he had nothing to do with any of it.

So, why is all of this happening now? Where is the responsibility? It’s his basketball program under investigation. If he doesn’t know, why not? Our president is also a guy who is never at fault for anything. “It’s a big job,” doesn’t excuse him from knowing everything.

Why is all this happening now? What these people are charged with has been going on for years. Coaches with million dollar salaries are doing whatever they think it takes to win no matter what it takes to do it.

The means justifying the ends. So much of this is the environment that it has the perpetrators operate as if they are invisible. No willingness to take responsibility for anything. Therefore, the behavior becomes more blatant. No one wants to be accountable for anything.

The President operates as if he is invisible as well. And, if the heat gets too strong he actually disappears. How can someone with a total absence of integrity lead a great nation? When are we going to put party lines aside and get together to solve our problems?

The members of the “world of sports” are the only ones who can solve their problems. Just like those who live in a neighborhood with problems must fully participate in solving their problems. What if the TV networks said that anyone who breaks the rules loses the right to appear on TV? First though we need to have a new rule book. What is in place now cannot be enforced.
