Let’s talk about the power of transformation. For 30 years I have done all I could do to provide a transformational experience for coaches, athletes, executives and their employees. It has been rewarding work and a great ride. However, I think there are some misconceptions that may limit what is possible over the long haul. I don’t know if I can adequately say what I see ,but here goes anyway …

Let’s begin with the conclusions, or maybe some are just outcomes … you can judge for yourself. I have my personal observations and experiences of the last 30 years. I think I am pretty clear as to what transformational work provides. However, I am not sure that what it takes to sustain it over time is always made clear to the participants.

I have led hundreds of workshops over the past 30 years and participated in more than a few for my own edification. Transformation does change one’s life. It does, however, require constant practice. In other words, we must stay present to how we are performing. Just like anything you are attempting to master. Transformation doesn’t turn one into a prince or a frog.We are still the human being (prince or princess) we have always been that now can see what wasn’t seen before.

It isn’t a function of memory. It is a function of practicing what we now see that was covered up by our lifetime habits. Reacting from a habit always gives us the same thing. Our transformed view allows for choices rather than playing B-17 on the jukebox one more time.

Being aware of ourselves and being willing to be authentic about what we see is the game. A clear view of the future and who we want on our team helps since we can’t go anywhere alone. Then, there is who we need to be to be a leader on our team.

Transformation opens the window to possibility. Possibility calls for action. Take it. Before you act, figure out your game plan in the action.
